Habitat for Humanity: For the next several years Habitat is focusing all of their efforts in Kendall-Whittier. We would love to welcome all of our new neighbors through Habitat with a welcome basket of household essentials. This is a great opportunity for a family or a Community group to do together.

Reading Partners: BattleCreek Church partners with the Reading Partner organization to help fill the need for Reading Partners in the two elementary schools in this neighborhood. Volunteers go to the schools once a week and read with a child for an hour.

Communities in Schools: BattleCreek Church partners with Communities in Schools to help support the needs of the schools in the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood. Opportunities include being a part of teams that decorate teacher lounges, helping cook and serve meals for teachers, or volunteering at school events.

Talk, Read, Sing: Tulsa’s “Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing,” brings together parents and community partners to improve children’s brain development and early learning. On average, a child from a family experiencing poverty has acquired 500 words by the age of four, compared to 1,100 words for a child from a high income family. BattleCreek Downtown hosts a Talk, Read, Sing event once a month. Volunteer opportunities include helping serve guests food and being a part of a hostess team.

Spanish speakers ministry: Because the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood has a high percentage of families who are Spanish speakers, we are excited to offer live Spanish translation in our 11 o’clock Sunday morning service at BattleCreek Church Downtown. If you speak and/or read Spanish, we have many opportunities for you to serve as we minister to this neighborhood.
